Spot is a beautiful leopardess sponsored by Motamedia. She lives in the wilds of South Africa under the guardianship of The Cape Leopard Trust.
So far, Spot has evaded the friendly attentions of The Cape Leopard team who are tracking her in order to fit her with a collar. She was last spotted on 1st April when she walked through two traps which had been set up in the area to pin down her whereabouts. Nevertheless, the Cape Leopard Trust managed to get some exciting photographs.
The GPS tracking device in the collar will provide vital information for the Trust's conservation efforts to research and understand the habits of these extraordinary creatures. It will also enable them to monitor when and where she has any new litters of cubs. The CLT’s efforts to assist farmers in ensuring that farmer-leopard conflict does not occur is working very well. This high tech collar will also confirm the well-being of this elusive and enigmatic animal.
Spot is the mother of a beautiful male cub. He was found to be fit and healthy and weighing 19kg at the time he was collared.
